Egyptian Meteorological Authority

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority is one of the most important scientific and applied sectors affiliated to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which possesses a balance of impressive national and international achievements

In 1829 AD, the Egyptian state, under the reign of Mohammed Ali Pasha, began measuring the temperature five times a day with the five prayer times in a room in the School of Engineers in "Bulaq" area.

In 1859 AD, the Khedive "Ismail" asked Mahmoud Hamdy Al-Falaky, one of the student at the School of Engineers, who worked at the Bulaq Observatory and before traveling to France to study astronomy and meteorology, to rebuild the observatory.

The new location of the observatory was in the Abbasia area, which continued to take observations throughout the period from 1868 AD to 1903 AD before being transferred to Helwan area in 1904 AD.

In 1915 AD, in the era of King Fuad I - Sultan of Egypt, Master of Nubia, Kordofan and Darfur, the Department of Nature became responsible for the meteorological service.

On the 28th of April 1952, the Meteorological Department was established, followed by three specialized centers for forecasting, the main center in the Cairo building, Cairo International Airport and Almaza Airport.

Under the Presidential Decree No. 2934 of 1971 AD, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority was established, which became the administration of the facility throughout the Republic.

And since that date under the national leadership headed by the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, starting with Dr. Mohammed Fathy Taha, who assumed the presidency of EMA from 1953 to 1976 AD, and the President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) from 1971 AD to 1979 AD, There were successive development plans to build technical and academic cadres, and to modernize all of its equipment and stations to keep pace with developments in meteorological science, devices, and related communications technology

Services

Our services

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority aims to monitor changes in the atmosphere and forecast future changes through a wide network of meteorological stations throughout the Arab Republic of Egypt, issue air reports, calibrate, maintain and repair scientific equipment used in this field, and participate in practical research on Atmosphere ........

Aviation Meteorological Services

EMA provides its civil and military aviation services through the weather forecasting centers and meteorological stations deployed in ARE and associated with global information networks that provide aviation meteorological information exchange.
Reports and forecasts of national and international airlines operating in the Arab Republic of Egypt or passing through the Egyptian airspace are also issued.

Meteorological Services in maritime navigation

EMA provides its maritime services through forecast stations and marine meteorological stations, in order to provide maritime meteorological information exchange in order to ensure the safety of sailing in ports, fishing and all maritime activities.

Meteorological services for agriculture

Agriculture was the first field to receive meteorological services, especially after the development of weather forecasts that prevented agriculture from many risks.

EMA, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and all agricultural research centers of the Ministry of Agriculture, measures some factors that affect agricultural productivity in the Arab Republic of Egypt and issues periodic reports to agricultural research centers and stakeholders.

Meteorological services in scientific research

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has recognized the importance of scientific research in the field of meteorology. The numerical model of weather forecasting has been developed and computer capabilities have been used to produce various weather maps.

As well as meteorological stations in the field of scientific research, which greatly helped in the research and analysis and development of the work system in order to obtain accurate outputs.

Meteorological services in studying environmental pollutants

There are different images of environmental pollutants, and lead to damage to life on this planet !!

With the scientific and technological development and the development of the observation and forecasting apparatus, it was necessary for the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, in cooperation with the concerned authorities, to monitor and measure the levels of air pollution, determine the level of natural pollution in the atmosphere and predict the movement of pollutants, produce reports and warnings at pollution levels, Global averages.

Meteorological services in the field of information and documentation

This is done through the Information, Documentation and Decision Support Center. Where the data are analyzed, the work of statistical studies, which is the basis of decision-making.

As well as the issuance of periodic scientific journal and research publications, etc., are exchanged with some scientific and research bodies.

Meteorological services in the field of training

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority provides its training services through the WMO Regional Training Center

Through the training activities provided, prepared cadres are technically and scientifically qualified to undertake all meteorological observation and forecasting, maintenance of monitoring and applied research in meteorological and other fields at the local, regional and international levels.

Other services

The EMA services are not limited to the above, but include many other areas, such as:

Urban planning and construction services, Meteorological services for the tourism sector, measurements of solar radiation, etc
